Originally from the East Coast of Scotland, near Dundee, James became interested in drama from an early age, performing in many school plays including the role of Demetrius in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. He went straight from school to train at Queen Margaret University College, graduating with a BA in Acting & Performance in 2011.
Productions at college included: Great Expectations; Macbeth; Oh! What a Lovely War; The Possibilities; The Seagull; and Golden Boy. Other theatre productions have included: Gorgeous; and On2Feet, both for Angus Council.
In his final year, James also represented QMUC at the Sam Wanamaker Festival, performing on stage at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre.
In the year after graduating, James was cast as one of the four co-leads in the third series of the BBC’s Gary: Tank Commander, played Romeo in Bard in the Botanic’s production of Romeo & Juliet, and played a guest role in the BBC’s River City.
