Alan is from Glasgow and trained at the RSAMD graduating in 1997. He’s worked extensively in theatre appearing at both the Edinburgh Lyceum and Glasgow Citizens’ Theatres. Other venues include: Perth; St Andrews Byre; Hereford Courtyard; Newcastle New Victoria. He’s appeared in acting roles with Scottish Opera and toured the length and breadth of Scotland with TAG and Mull Theatre Companies amongst others. For Jekyll and Hyde (Mull Theatre) The Scotsman wrote “…movingly conveyed in Alan Steele’s heart-wrenching performance as the tormented Jekyll”.
In 2003 he received a nomination in The Stage Awards for Best Actor on the Festival Fringe for his performance in Confessions of a Justified Sinner (Rowan Tree Co), for which performance the Glasgow Herald wrote “Alan Steele gives a stunning performance” and the Stage wrote “….a supremely skilled actor”. He did the 2007 repertoire season at Pitlochry Festival Theatre where credits included: Flouers O’ Edinburgh; The Magistrate and Taking Sides, for which reviews included: “Alan Steele gives a tremendously brave, powerful and dislikeable performance as Arnold…” (Scotsman) and “A real tour de force from Steele” (Stage).
Audio work includes BBC Radio 3’s contemporised adaptation of Confessions of a Justified Sinner. Screen credits include: Taggart: A Death Foretold (ITV/STV); Age of Genius (BBC) and the feature film Bent.
